They were the disappointment of the weekend. Everybody was excited for the live set, but they came with a lame and really boring DJ set as a headliner which played the cheesiest house hits. A crowd cam with crappy projections and Playstation 1 era FX, really? The main stage started relatively full, at the end it was insanely empty for a headline set. You could see the difference between them and the nights where Justice (insane production and high quality performance) and Nutini (great voice and exceptionally strong band) played, when it was just as full at the end as it was at the start. I hope they stay away from the Netherlands until they actually bring a normal production and give us the same experience they are granting other countries, and they should not return as a headliner in any capacity until they're able to do this a few times in a row. Their slot could have been filled with an actual, decent act that put in the effort to show up and do something exceptional.

She is just such a cool person!!

Annie made it clear that unlike all past albums and tours, this time she was not assuming a persona for an art-rock project but was stripping it all away and revealing her true self. This is obviously true given her new "no holds barred" stage presence. But also, in the past, going all the way back to her Brooklyn performance and pre-Marry Me days, her queerness was something between the lines, or inferred from songs and surmised from dating rumors; for her own reasons, she didn't address it head on. Most likely, she wanted to be known as an artist and not be professionally ghettoized as a "queer performer". But, this interview and several others in the past few months (and the song "Power is Out") show she has finally satisfied herself that she is sufficiently well established and recognized as a brilliant artist with a near-mainstream following, and can come out proud in a big bold way. I don't think I've heard her use the word "lesbian" before. Hope you're having the time of your life, Annie; you deserve it. Thank you for all you have given us.

What I love about this album is that she reuses her own melodies like leitmotifs. The verse in "crude drawing of an angel" sounds like the verse in "butterfly net". It truly is like every song is a puzzle piece of a whole album. The best album of 2023
